Physical gold and real assets

Having exposure to gold isn't always owning a bar.

Physical gold can make sense for a part of your wealth that you want to preserve. For that, it has to be in your name, identified and properly stored.

Three words that matter

  • OwnershipThe gold is yours, not a claim against an institution that could run into trouble.
  • AllocationEach piece is identified by its serial number and registered in your name.
  • CustodyWhere it is kept, who keeps it, how it is insured and how you get it back.

What it is for, and what it isn't

It can make sense

For a part of your savings you want to preserve for the long term, outside the financial system and properly documented.

It doesn't make sense

For all your money, to speculate on the price, or for decisions made because of a headline.

The risks, plainly

The price of gold goes up and down. There are buying, selling and storage costs; liquidity is not immediate; taxation depends on your case and should be reviewed by your adviser; and there is always a counterparty holding custody. Past performance does not guarantee future returns.

Who I work with

Since 2017 I have worked with Auvesta, which lets you buy and store physical precious metals in your name in an online depot, with no fixed term or lock-in. Before anything else, I explain how it works and whether it fits your map.
